Use concrete caulk or concrete & mortar repair caulk Most construction adhesives and grey-latex caulks also work well. Avoid caulks that have a high silicone content. They do not adhere well to vinyl. Replacing existing vents: · Knock out and remove old vent from the foundation with something like a pry bar and hammer · Remove all old joint mortar from the opening. A cold chisel or screwdriver is useful for this. · Follow installation steps as for new construction If the siding overlaps the vent opening enough to interfere with the installation: Before removing your existing vents, measure the height of the opening from the bottom of the siding to the bottom of the rough opening. It must be at least 7 for the door to swing properly · Remove the smaller piece of foam from the top of the InsulVent housing. It should pull off easily. Keep it for reinstallation later · Run a utility knife in cut-off groove on upper back side of vent housing flange and remove the top piece of flange. · Pry siding back enough to insert the InsulVent. Follow installation steps as for new construction · Reach inside to replace the small piece of foam if there is adequate space. Installing in new construction: · Place a liberal bead of caulk* around the back of the InsulVent housing flange · Push the vent tightly into place. · Any caulk escaping around the edge of the flange should be cleaned off. · Allow the caulk to set for a day before operating the door. |
