About the InsulVent
InsulVent was developed by a builder who saw the need to make it easier to insulate your crawl-space and to replace damaged vent screens.
Homeowners have insulated their crawl spaces to keep as much warmth under the house as possible. But leaving the vent area uninsulated is like insulating the house and leaving the windows open. So homeowners dutifully crawled under the house to stuff insulation into the vent areas in the fall and then crawled back under there to remove the insulation in the spring.
InsulVent makes that unnecessary. It has a door that opens from the outside of the house. The door has two slots in it. The first slot holds the screen. The second slot holds a 2” thick piece of foam insulation (with an R-Value of 8.8—also replaceable) which is custom cut to enable the door to open and close while still keeping cold air out. In the fall the homeowner opens the vent door inserts the insulation and closes the door. In the spring, the insulation is removed and stored for future use.
Of course, should you need to replace a damaged screen, InsulVent makes that very easy. Just slip the damaged one out and put a new one in!
InsulVent is made of high quality vinyl that is designed to withstand the elements and still look good; and, since vinyl by nature is a poor conductor of both heat or cold, it is the ideal material to use for this vent.
Dimensions: The InsulVent fits the rough opening size of a standard cement block, (7 7/8 x 15 7/8). The front exposure of the InsulVent housing is 18” x 10” The insert portion of the vent is approximately 15 7/8” x 7 7/8” This is the size of a cement block. The vent fits into the space where a cement block is left out of the foundation. The depth of the vent is 3.25” which allows room for both a screen and a 2” thick block of EPS foam. The vent with insulation and screen weighs 2.3 lbs.
InsulVent comes in one color. It is a beige-grey which is designed to blend with the color of cement.
